[Tree Giveaway] Saturday, February 13th from 9am to1pm TreeFolks is hosting a Fruit Tree Giveaway at the SFC Sunset Valley Farmers’ Market. They’ll be giving away 450 Satsuma orange, fig, peach, pear, plum, persimmon, and pomegranate trees. All of the trees have been selected for vigor and adaptability to Austin’s soil and climate. [Volunteer] Saturday, February 13th from 9am to 11am Keep Austin Beautiful is hosting a Lady Bird Lake Cleanup at several locations throughout the city.Volunteers are needed to pick up trash along the shoreline and in the water. Registration forms are available online. More info>>

[Reuse Party] Saturday, February 13th from10am to 2pm Austin Creative Reuse is having aGrand Opening Celebration at its new Creative Reuse Center in the Linc Shopping Center. There will be free paper crafting, reuse games, and refreshments. [Gardening Class] Saturday, February 13th at noon Brite Ideas is hosting a free “Nourishing Garden” class at its store on South Congress Avenue. Students will learn how to better grow their garden and select crops for optimum nutrition. These steps also lead to better flavors and textures that make gardening more rewarding. More info>>


[Volunteer] Sunday, February 14th from 9am to noon the University of Texas Campus Environmental Center is hosting a workday at its microfarm on Leona Street. Volunteers are needed to help with planting, weeding, and harvesting for this student-run farming initiative. More info>>

[Volunteer] Wednesday, February 17th from 9am to noon TreeFolks is hosting a tree planting event off Oak Springs Drive. Volunteers are needed to plant small tree saplings, which will help reduce water runoff and improve water quality in Austin’s creeks and wetlands. More info>>

[Kid-Friendly] Wednesday, February 17th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm the North Village Branch Library is hosting a puppet show for children ages 4 and up entitled, “The Selfish Gardener.” The show puts a musical and eco-friendly spin on Oscar Wilde’s, “The Selfish Giant.” The story follows a gardener that learns to live together with the insects on her land, learning about how togarden more sustainably. [Happy Hour] Wednesday, February 17th from 6pm to 8pm Net Impact Austin is hosting its Green Drinks Happy Hour at Hops & Grain Brewing. Richard Thornton, environmental grants and outreach coordinator at Patagonia in Austin, will be the guest speaker. More info>>

[Chicken Talk] Thursday, February 18th from 6pm to 8pm the Urban Poultry Association of Texas is hosting a presentation by Patricia Foreman, sustainable agricultural author and local foods activist. She’ll be talking about the power of chickens to transform food deserts into growing food paradises. This is a must attend for any backyard poultry enthusiast, aspiring gardener, or local food supporter.
