We all know traffic is bad in Austin. We all complain about it. We all wish there was a better way to get around town.
Now’s your chance to actually do something about it.
The City of Austin Transportation Department and Capital Metro are hosting “Traffic Jam: Taking It To The Streets” on Wednesday, March 28th from 4pm to 8pm at the Austin Central Library. The event is an opportunity for you to learn more about our region’s latest transportation plans, as well as to give your feedback. More info>>
The two plans that will be discussed are:
- Austin Strategic Mobility Plan – being designed to guide our city’s future transportation investments. The new mobility plan is being designed to create a series of actionable “goals and objectives to guide Austin’s near- and long-term transportation investments.” And since our last transportation plan is so old (1995), this new plan is being created to reflect a more modern Austin.
- Project Connect – an effort to bring high-capacity transit to Austin. This is a major effort being spearheaded by Cap Metro to bring an entire system of trains/buses/public transit to the Austin area.
One last thing – one reason why previous high-capacity transit bonds have failed at the ballot box is because too many Austinites haven’t liked the final project (be it the route, mode, design, or price tag). One way to prevent that from happening again is to get involved now and help to shape the transportation package that everyone gets to vote on when Election Day finally comes around.
