In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new place to ride your bike in town. The entire MoPac Mobility Bridges project opened to the public last month. The new network of bridges and pathways now means that you can ride your bike from south Austin all the way to Lady Bird Lake in a protected bike lane.
In total, the project adds two miles of bike and pedestrian lanes to our city’s urban trail network and includes:
- A new bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Barton Creek at MoPac
- A bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Loop 360 at MoPac
- A multi-use trail that accommodates bicycles and pedestrians on the west side of MoPac from Loop 360 to Tamarron Boulevard.
Funding for the project came from TxDOT ($4.4 million), the City of Austin ($7.5 million), and a federal grant ($2.5 million).
