05 Aug TCEQ Accepting Nominations For Texas Environmental Excellence Awards
Entry Deadline is October 16
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards – the state’s highest environmental honor.
The annual awards, which recognize achievements that significantly reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and prevent pollution, are presented by the governor’s office and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. A governor’s blue ribbon committee identifies outstanding contributions in 11 diverse categories. The public may nominate an individual, community, company, or organization for an award.
Recent past winners include a green building certification program, a creative effort to use landfill gas as an energy source, and a high school water harvesting project.
Award categories include: Agriculture, Civic/Nonprofit, Education, Government, Individual, Innovative Technology, Large Business/Nontechnical, Large Business/Technical, Small Business, and for the second consecutive year, Water Conservation.
"We look forward to the many innovative projects that address protecting our valuable natural resources," said TCEQ Chairman Buddy Garcia. "It will be an honor to once again recognize all the outstanding contributions made during the year."
"Every year our state is rewarded by the innovation and diversity of the outstanding projects nominated for this award," said Commissioner Bryan W. Shaw, Ph.D. "The commitment to our environment, as shown by the nominees, should inspire us all."
