The Second Annual Children’s Picnic and Real Food Fair

The second annual Children's Picnic and Real Food Fair will be held Sunday, March 30, from 1 to 5 p.m., on the grounds of the historic French Legation Museum, 802 San Marcos Street. The free event, celebrates First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Initiative, which vows to combat childhood obesity in a generation. Co-presenters Edible Austin, The SANDE Youth Project, The French Legation Museum and Whole Foods Market invite families to pack a picnic, grow a garden, meet farmers and local food vendors, and enjoy cooking demos, music and much more.

Activities new to the Children's Picnic this year include craft, movement and music activities from The Thinkery, Austin’s new Children’s Museum and painting rainwater collection barrels from Whole Foods Market's Garden Grants to Schools program. Square-foot gardening, sponsored by D-CRAIN Design and Landscape, and the Funmi & Friends puppet show will return for another year at the Children's Picnic to educate families and kids about accessible gardening and healthy eating.

9-year old entrepreneur Mikaila Ulmer, founder of BeeSweet Lemonade, will be speaking at the event about the important role bees play in the foods we eat. She will also touch on how she started her successful business and plans to pass out lemonade samples, buttons and temporary tattoos.

Vendors at this years Children's Picnic include the Whole Foods Market Food Truck, The Natural Epicurean, Austin Parks Foundation, Mom & Pops All Natural Frozen Pops, All Kooped Up and more! A full listing of vendors and sponsors can be found at EdibleAustin.com/ChildrensPicnic
