It’s April, which also means that the Earth Day ATX festival is right around the corner. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 21st from noon to 7pm at Huston-Tillotson University.

 

The theme for this year is “Reclaiming Power,”which means that the programming and activities will focus around all different types of power, from local civic power to sustainable power.

 

Activities will include live music, rock climbing, a modern vehicle showcase, science projects, guest speakers, a kids zone, a bike repair and release drive, and a tornado simulator.

1. Policy Power: Insights On Influence In Local Decision Making – panel discussion featuring an array of local elected officials, including State Representative Celia Israel and County Commissioner Jeff Travillion. Moderated by Evan Smith, CEO of the Texas Tribune.

2. Climate, Energy, And National Security – screening of “Age of Consequences,” followed by a discussion on the national security implications of climate change

3. Family Video Showcase With PBS And YouTube Star Joe Hanson – screening of a series of short videos from the science education show “It’s Okay To Be Smart.” Plus, the premier of the new climate and environment show, “Hot Mess.”
