Even though we just had an election on May 7th, another one is right around the corner! The May 7th election saw the passage of Prop A (decriminalizing marijuana and banning no-knock warrants in Austin) and two statewide propositions about property taxes.
The May 24th election is a primary runoff (and early voting lasts through May 20th). You might remember that back in March, we had primary elections for several county and state races. (Primary elections are when you get to choose which candidates from your own political party will run in the general election in November.) Well, several of those races had so many people running that no single candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, forcing a runoff election with the top two vote-getters. That’s what’s happening now.
Here’s the major races you’ll see on your ballot if you’re voting in the Democratic primary runoff:
US Representative, District 21
Lieutenant Governor
Attorney General
Comptroller
Land Commissioner
And if you’re voting in the Republican primary runoff:
US Representative, District 35
US Representative, District 37
Attorney General
Land Commissioner
Railroad Commissioner
State Representative, District 19
Below are the original guides we created for the primary elections back in March. Many of these runoffs are mentioned in the guides below. You can also visit Vote411.org for more information about the primary runoff elections in Texas.

One quick tip – You might want to find your sample ballot at VoteTravis.com before diving into these guides. Many of the local races are divided into districts, which means that only parts of the county can vote in them. By getting your personalized sample ballot, you’ll be able to know exactly which districts you live in.
