08 Aug New Crestview/Highland Urban Trail, Three Bike Metro Rack, and Bike Share!
Capital Metro and the City of Austin rolled out (pun intended) the new Crestview/Highland urban trail that connects transit hubs, businesses and the forthcoming ACC Highland campus.
The trail is a .9 mile, 10-foot wide concrete pathway for bicyclists/pedestrians that runs along the MetroRail Red Line in City of Austin right-of-way, connects Crestview and Highland MetroRail stations, and continues south of Highland Station to Denson. The landscaping includes 144 trees donated by Austin Energy that will provide shade and a physical barrier between busy Airport Blvd. and the trail. The trail construction was funded by an American Recovery & Reinvestment Act stimulus grant awarded to Capital Metro.
At the grand opening last Friday I also got to check out the B Cycle bike sharing bikes as well as the Cap Metro bus bike racks that can hold three bikes!
Bike Sharing is coming to Austin and the City of Austin’s Public Works Department and local non-profit Bike Share of Austin are requesting input from the public to identify bike share locations throughout the city until the end of August.
Where would you like a Bike Share Station? You can suggest new locations and vote on the locations people have already suggested. You can also give feedback on the color you think the bikes should be! Read full release here.
