21 Aug Movie Screenings, Transportation Meetups, and Butterflies – All in this week’s Calendar Highlights
[Movie] Thursday, August 21st from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, the Sustainable Food Center will be hosting a screening of the documentary, "Seeds of Death." The film explores the dangers of genetically modified foods and includes interviews with scientists, physicians, professors, attorneys, and activists. More info>>
[Farmers Market] ThisSaturday, August 23rd, theCedar Park Farmers Market,and Sunday, August 24th,the Mueller Farmers Market,will be hosting "Feed the Monarch Butterflies"events. The farmers markets will be giving awayfree milkweed seedlings, to encourage people to grow gardens full of the plant, which is the monarch's main food source. More info>>
[Movie] On Saturday, August 23rd at 7pm, theYoung Sierrans are hosting a screening of the film,"Relativity of Risk," a documentary about celebrated rock-climber, Alex Honnold. Alex is adaring free-solo climber, who has climbed 1,000 foot cliffs without any ropes or harnesses. The screening will be held at the Stateside at the Paramount and will be followed by a panel discussion with Alex and the makers of the film.More info>>
[Transportation Meetup]On Monday, August 25th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm RideScout and Carma Carpooling are hosting a kick-off party at theCapital Factory to celebrate a new partnership between the two companies. More info>>
This will be followed by the Austin Transportation Meetup from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. In the first half of the meeting, three new alternative transportation companies will be giving presentations about their businesses. The second half of the meeting will be dedicated to Austin's newest urban rail proposal, with representatives from both sides of the debate standing up to voice their opinions about the upcoming $1.4 billion transportation bond proposal. [Movie] On Wednesday, August 27th at 6:30pmthere will be a special screening of the documentary film, "A Place at the Table," at the Alamo Drafthouse Village. The acclaimed film tells the story of three individuals dealing with hunger in America and offers solutions for dealing with hunger in this country. After the screening, four food and nutrition experts will continue this conversation about hunger in America with a special Q&A session with the audience. Tickets are $10 and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit Urban Roots. Attendees will also receive a coupon for a free burrito from Chipotle, who is helping to put on the event. More info>>
