What's Inside...

Ice cream + parks. That’s what happening this Saturday, September 8th from 11am to 1pm at the “Seaholm Ice Cream Social.”

The event is being hosted by the Austin Parks Foundation and the Trail Foundation to share potential plans with the public for the renovation of the historic Seaholm Intake Building. The goal for the project is to create an open and flexible space that can be used any day by the public (plus periodically for events). The hope is also to create an amphitheater, additional water access points, and a public lawn space.

Free Lick Ice Cream will be be given to attendees on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to get there early! More info>>

Wait. What’s the Seaholm Intake Building again?

Originally built to pump water for cooling into the nearby Seaholm Power Plant in the 1950s, the Seaholm Intake building fell out of use decades ago when the power plant was decommissioned. The building is an example of Art Deco design and is on the National Register of Historic Places. (You might recognize it as that big, gray building you pass by when you’re paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake).

Over the summer, a series of mock-up designs for the Seaholm Intake Building were released, featuring a coffee shop, food trucks, and kayak parking.
