Did you know? Austin has a serious food equity problem. Some people in Austin live 15 miles from the nearest grocery store! Earlier this month, Austin City Council took steps to do something about that, by directing the newly formed Equity Office to prioritize food access.
“We are the most economically segregated metropolitan area in the country,” said Austin Mayor Steve Adler in an email. “We have to do big things to address our affordability crisis. And one way we can do that is taking steps to close the equity gap, in this case by ending food deserts.” More info>>
