23 Jan GMO Labeling Day of Action | Volunteer Opp
TxPIRG (Texas Public Interest Research Group) is going out on the streets of downtown Austin – South Congress – during prime time brunch hour to educate the public on the importance of GMO labeling and organic sustainable farming.
They will be getting people to sign the petition (below) and recruiting activists to help out in the future. Meet at 10:45am at Jo's Coffee to grab a cuppa before hitting the pavement.
We all agree that GMOs are no good and that people should have the right to know what’s in the food they consume – and we won’t make any progress until the public demands the right to know!
E-mail Sara (sara@texpirg.org) if you plan to attend so they can bring enough clipboards, pens and petitions
Date – Saturday February 1st
Time – 11am-2pm (Meet at 10:45am to grab coffee at Jo’s South Congress before)
Location – South Congress between Jo’s Coffee and Wahoo’s Fish Tacos

Petition Text:
Dear Robert L. Edwards, CEO of Randalls
Consumers have a right to make healthy, responsible, and informed choices about the food we eat. Yet it’s usually impossible to know whether our food contains GMOs.
GMOs aren’t without risk— some are designed for increased pesticides, which have been linked to serious health and environmental effects. And they usually don’t undergo safety testing before being brought to market.
Congress has not adopted a GMO labeling requirement, but in the meantime some stores, like Whole Foods, have responded to the strong concern of customers by labeling their GMO products, so we’re asking Randalls to start labeling store brand products that contain GMOs.
Please label store-brand products for GMO ingredients.
