Free Bus Rides And Late Night Service All Summer Long

Riding the bus

What's Inside...

This summer, kids will be able to ride FREE on all of Capital Metro’s services. It’s all part of a pilot program called “Summer Sun, Late Nights and Family Fun,” which is aimed at increasing public transportation ridership throughout Austin.

Increasing ridership is a big goal for Cap Metro, which has seen costs to provide public transit services rise since 2000, while ridership has actually decreased.

“These pilot initiatives respond directly to what I have been hearing from customers and partners during our customer engagement events,” said (the newly appointed) Capital Metro President/CEO Randy Clarke. “They enable us to use our existing services and investments to increase ridership and provide community-focused mobility solutions.”

In addition to free rides for K-12 students, Cap Metro will also be expanding its weekend MetroRail service hours throughout the summer. This will include late-night service on Fridays to Leander until 1:45am and expanded hours to Lakeline on Saturdays until 2:30am.

Cap Metro will also be testing out all-day (starting at 10am) MetroRail weekend services on June 9thJuly 7th, and August 4th. The pilot program will last from June 8th to September 1stMore info>>
