November 23 @ 4:16 pm

Basic Info

Date:
November 23, 2024
Time:
4:16 pm

2nd annual Social Good Summit Austin Work From Home Day (WFHD) will happen on September 10, 2013 — WFHD improves Austin air quality, reduces traffic congestion, and lowers ozone and carbon emissions by removing 20, 000 cars from city roads. In addition, WFHD educates employers and employees about available tools that make working remotely simple, effective, and profitable.

The plan for our next Work From Home Day on September 10, 2013 is to encourage enough businesses and individuals to take the challenge and get 20,000 cars off Austin-area roads for one day. We are focused on the goal to foster lower ozone and carbon emissions while educating our work force about tools to make working remotely simple and manageable.
In an initiative created by a group of community activists, leaders, and socially conscious entrepreneurs gathered to discuss ways to create a sustainable impact on U.S. communities at the Austin area simulcast of the highly-lauded Mashable Social Good Summit in New York City. The leading resolution passed by the Austin team supports the creation of a citywide “Work From Home Day (WFHD)” initiative that will contribute to reducing air pollution. City Councilman Mike Martinez was also instrumental in getting a resolution by the City Council passed today that supports this initiative.

The local summit group decided that fostering clean air was among the most urgent of needs for Austin, but wanted to do more than propose a lofty idea that everyone just stay home. By educating both managers and employees on the options and tools for trackable productivity while working outside of the office, we could ensure that our city keeps running even if our cars don’t!

The SGS group is continually working to gather support from as many companies, governmental organizations, not-for-profit organizations and NGO’s as possible, including the region’s air quality improvement organization, the CLEAN AIR Force of Central Texas.

Our initial Work From Home Day held in February 2013 proved to be a great success which you can read about in our Whitepaper found here.
