From the City of Austin Wildland Conservation Division –

Want to get to know Austin’s wildlands, share your love of nature with others, and further develop your skills as a naturalist and interpreter? Become a Wildlands volunteer leader!

Hike Guides commit to co-leading six hikes each year and Land Stewards commit to leading six volunteer restoration workdays each year. If interested, please fill out a short online application at bit.ly/2zTLVwb. Then sign up to attend the orientation on Saturday, Feb. 9th and First Aid/CPR training on Saturday, Feb. 16th at austintexas.gov/wildlandevents. Email audrey.stewart@austintexas.gov with questions.

About the Program:

The City of Austin’s Wildland Conservation Division manages the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve to protect and mitigate for development of endangered species habitat in western Travis County and the Water Quality Protection Lands to protect and restore land and water to benefit Barton Springs. Parts of these lands, like Mt. Bonnell and the Barton Creek Greenbelt are regularly open to the public, while others are only accessible through guided hikes and volunteer events. Volunteer Hike Guides and Land Stewards give others the opportunity to explore and learn about natural and cultural history and contribute to the conservation of these lands.
