Join us for dynamic lightning talks at historic Huston-Tillotson University in the heart of East Austin. Community leaders will highlight a variety of important work and share why historic preservation matters today.

Lightning talk presenters include Robbie Anderson speaking on the Queer Austin Bike Tour, Catalina Berry on the East Austin Conservancy’s work, Ashley Besic on sustainability and old buildings, Noel and Will Bridges on iconic legacy businesses, Alan Garcia on highlighting local history, Hanna Huang on Asian American cultural heritage, Ayshea Khan on equitable community engagement, and Marla Torrado on displacement prevention.

This event kicks off the release of the draft of Austin’s new Equity-Based Preservation Plan.

The Equity-Based Preservation Plan will replace Austin’s 1981 historic preservation plan with an inclusive, community-oriented process and outcome. Created by a community working group, the draft plan is available for public review and feedback through May 31, 2024.
