Travel+SocialGood is hosting events in five of its Hub cities worldwide to raise awareness of the travel industry’s potential to act as a force and help support the implementation of the United Nations’ Global Goal 14: conserving our oceans.
Voices from the Sea follows the story of a remote society in their battle to save the sea; an example of courage for the planet. After the screening, panelists will discuss the interconnected issues of ocean conservation and how we can make a positive impact.

Panelists
Laura Huffman, State Director (Texas) of The Nature Conservancy. Ms. Huffman leads a statewide team of scientists, conservation experts, and support staff whose work protects the integrity of Texas’ vast natural resources and most iconic landscapes. She is also founding director of the Conservancy’s North America Cities program, created to support cities as they integrate natural infrastructure into local planning and development initiatives in ways that safeguard people and reduce vulnerability to climate change.
Jennifer Walker, Water Resources Program Manager for the Sierra Club, Lone Star Chapter. Ms. Walker has 15 years experience working on water policy Texas–specifically in water planning, water conservation, and bay/ estuary protection. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Water Efficiency and the Colorado River Alliance and has a B.S. in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from the University of Texas at Austin.
Ryan Boudreaux is Whole Foods‘ Seafood Coordinator for the Southwest Region. As a chef with more than 20 years of experience in the food industry, Ryan developed a deep appreciation for fresh seafood while working in restaurant kitchens. Ryan’s focus on seafood sustainability and quality led him to join the Whole Foods Market team in 2005. From the wild salmon boats in Alaska to a family-owned seafood farm in Norway, Ryan loves visiting and meeting our dedicated partners face-to-face because he shares their passion for preserving our supply of seafood in the future.
Nick Wiersema of The Surfrider Foundation, Central Texas Chapter. The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves, and beaches. One of the 80 chapters worldwide, the Central Texas Chapter was founded in Summer 2000 by environmentally conscious surfers in Austin, Texas–dedicated to protecting the 367 miles of Texas coastline.
