2008 Garage Sale a Huge Success!
A big, big thank you to everyone who came to the 2008 Trash to Treasure Garage Sale! We saved more than 40 tons of stuff from heading to the landfill and raised over $14,000 for student-run environmental programs at UT, like recycling and energy conservation.
Look for the Next Garage Sale in August 2009!
The 2009 Garage Sale will be held August 23rd, from 9AM-3PM in the UT Recreational Sports Center on 20th and San Jacinto. Click here for a map.
We recommend signing up for a reminder about the sale – just put your email in the box to the right. We will only send you five emails a year; nothing more.
We sell everything, from furniture to clothing to housewares to electronics. If you can think of it, probably someone’s donated it! You can get an idea of what the sale will be like by checking out our Photo Gallery.
Between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., students are $2 and adults $4 for admission, and the sale becomes free for everyone to attend at 11 AM. ***See below for the benefits of volunteering***
There is free, convenient parking at Dedman Dr. and Red River, just north of MLK. Parking is available in all spots marked "C".
For those without vehicles, we provide a limited-range, first-come, first-serve furniture delivery service for between $25 and $50 per load, depending on how much you are having delivered, and where you live.
About Trash to Treasure
Trash to Treasure, presented by the University Co-op, is a huge goods recycling program run by the UT Campus Environmental Center, an agency of Student Government. Each year we collect students’ unwanted belongings as they move out in May, store them over the summer, and recycle them in a huge garage sale when school starts in August.
We recommend signing up for a Trash to Treasure reminder – just put your email address in the box to the right; we’ll only send you five emails a year, nothing more.
Volunteers Needed
We need more than 100 volunteers! Please click here to sign up. As a volunteer, you will get a free Early Bird Pass to the sale, so you can get the best deals. You’ll also get access to a volunteers-only secret preview, where you’ll get to scope out the stuff before anyone else. This is a campus-wide recycling effort, and we need your help! ***Early Bird Pass let’s you get in by 8:30 in the morning!***
It’s all for a good cause!
Trash to Treasure provides three-fold benefits: tens of thousands of pounds of stuff is diverted from the waste stream, students can buy cool, cheap goods for their residences, and the money raised supports campus environmental programs, like recycling, litter reduction, and energy conservation. The program is run by the Campus Environmental Center, an agency of UT Student Government; you can read more about us at
