Join the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden and Museum, the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department, and Page/ architecture firm, for the unveiling of the Historic Preservation, Expansion and Unification Plan on
Wednesday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m. at 605 Azie Morton Rd. This event is free and open to the public.
Please RSVP for the event.
The plan is the vital first step for the Austin art institution to improve access and expand use of the 5.86-acre sculpture garden, museum and grounds, while preserving and incorporating the adjacent 1.93-acre site that includes the historic home of Angeline and Charles Umlauf, their private sculpture garden, and the artist’s studio.
The plan recommends the preservation and activation of the historic Umlauf home and studio for public access, more gathering and programmatic space, and strategies to display additional art that is currently in storage. The plan also recommends the implementation of sustainable practices and innovative stormwater management strategies.
The plan began in summer 2023 with community engagement and site assessment followed by a feedback period for the public to respond to different conceptual ideas, which were incorporated into the plan.
The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden and Museum was made possible through the Umlaufs’ 1985 donation of their personal residence, art studio, seven acres and more than 150 sculptures to the City of Austin for use as an art museum, which opened to the public on adjacent land in 1991.
