The Power Of Environmental Justice

From Green Is The New Black –

Monday, April 16, 6:00-8:00 pm
Beverly Wright on “The Power of Environmental Justice”

Beverly Wright, founder and Executive Director of the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, has for decades worked throughout the Southern United States to develop minority leadership for environmental, social, and economic justice along the Mississippi River Chemical Corridor and Gulf Coast Region. Wright, a professor of sociology at Dillard University in New Orleans, will speak about how local power can be the driving force for action on environmental injustice, but comes with tension and pain when communities are left to do this largely on their own. Are we doing enough to ensure justice is infused into community resilience projects that seek to build local power?

Location: Dickey-Lawless Science Building, Huston-Tillotson University, 900 Chicon St., Austin, 78702, with free parking in the Chalmers Avenue lot and free street parking around campus.
