Project Name: Riveroaks Preserve trash removal
Location: Riveroaks Preserve in Georgretown Texas
Date and Time: Saturday July 17, 2010, 8:00am to 12:00pm
Logistics: Participants will park in the Tractor Supply Company parking lot and then walk to the preserve which is behind and to the left of the store. Address is 801 S Interstate 35, Georgetown, TX 78626.
Please contact us if you plan on coming.
Degree of Difficulty: High. 12 years old and up, minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Work area is very steep and rocky, Some of the trash items are very heavy.

Activity Goal: To remove trash, old tires, and dumped material from the preserve so that it can be picked up by the city of Georgetown during their large trash day.
Activity Details: After a brief safety orientation we will begin gathering up dumped material (tires, appliances, other) that has been thrown down a rocky canyon. Volunteers will clamber down and haul stuff up. Some of the larger items may require us to tie ropes to them and pull them up from the top. The City of Georgetown will block off access to this dumping spot in August, so now is a good time to get it into good condition.

Clothing Required: Participants must wear appropriate footwear for hiking on rugged terrain, ankle support is vital. Long pants required.
Participants Need to Bring: Mandatory: work gloves, sense of humor. Optional: If you have some old rope or climbing rope that could be used to drag items to the top of the bluff, please bring it.
Essential Project Needs and Safety Considerations:
Activity will not occur in drizzly or rainy conditions.
Those with allergies to bee stings or fire ants should be prepared as necessary. Nearest medical facility is approximately 10 minutes away. A first aid kit will be available on site.
Terrain is rocky, uneven and steep.
Trash items are heavy.
There is the possibility participants may encounter poison ivy, snakes, spiders, scorpions and other wildlife.
Gatorade and water will be provided.
