You are invited to join us as we swear-in over 50 new AmeriCorps members to the Texas Conservation Corps program at AmericanYouthWorks.
We’ll celebrate their commitment to conservation and disaster relief service on this 20th anniversary of AmeriCorps.
These young people have already done great things in 2014. They’ve begun construction on the region’s first long distance trail system, the Violet Crown Trail. They’ve planted 15,000 loblolly pines saplings in the Bastrop burn zone and seeded over 25,000 more for planting in the coming years. They’ve begun their sixth year as Texas Parks and Wildlife’s dedicated trail crew. They’ve worked through the ice and snow protecting habitat in the United States Fish and Wildlife Service Preserve System. And they’ve spent hours training to be ready for their first disaster deployment… ready to serve across the U.S. with limited notice. We’re proud of this group and are excited to lead them in the AmeriCorps pledge on this beautiful park overlook, originally constructed by one of FDR’s Depression-era youth work programs.
