People are more passionate than ever to participate in our democratic process, as demonstrated by community members voting in higher numbers, marching in protests, signing petitions, and contacting their local and state representatives to have their voices heard. Another way Austin residents can be a positive change agent in our democracy is by serving as an appointed member of a City of Austin board or commission.
This webinar features Myrna Rios, the Deputy City Clerk, who will discuss how to apply to be appointed to one of the City of Austin’s 70 diverse boards and commissions, qualifications and responsibilities, and conflicts of interest that may arise while serving. Three City of Austin active board and commission members will discuss their experiences, what goes into their decision-making processes, and their interests in serving the community.
