PROGRAM: Solar Neighborhoods, with David Martin
David Martin is an architect, developer, and builder. In 2008 he began work on the first “true” solar single-family subdivision in Texas, producing high quality residences combined with aesthetics and high-energy efficiency through passive and active solar design, solar water-heating, thermal chimneys, a convection-inducing thermal-break roof system, rainwater collection, and more. His Austin homes have achieved the highest 5 star rating from the COA, national HERS scores of 9, and energy bills of $150 a year or less.
David grew up in south Texas and graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Architecture, Environmental Design degree in 1979. David has over 35 years of experience as an architect in design and/or construction of projects that include homes, schools, banks, police and fire stations, condos, retail and office buildings. His major clients include the Veterans and Social Security Administration, City of Austin, Travis and Williamson Counties, Trammel Crow and The Kucera Company. His family home in the Great Hills area featured passive solar, a heat chimney with motorized windows and a recirculation air system. He moved to Miami in 1999 and lived aboard a 42 foot Ketch sailboat for 9 years.
Consider biking, carpooling, or taking Cap Metro (http://www.capmetro.org/planner) to the meeting. Free parking is available after 6pm on nearby streets.
