Our monthly Austin Sierra Club meeting will be online via Zoom.

We’ll start off with Announcements on current events… Tonite’s main program is Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste, with Donald Hardee and Andy Dawson.

How does Austin’s Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center work? Austin’s HHW facilities play an important role of getting dangerous materials out of the municipal waste stream. Many of the everyday items that come through these facilities can be more dangerous when mixed with other chemicals or in the hands of someone who may be uninformed about their chemical properties. These programs keep municipal solid waste workers safe while protecting equipment and the environment. What happens to these potentially dangerous items after they are collected at the drop-off centers?

Donald Hardee is a Division Manager for the City of Austin’s Austin Resource Recovery Department. He manages the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Program, Resource Recovery. Andy Dawson is Assistant Division Manager at City of Austin.
