The Austin Regional Group of the Sierra Club is a volunteer organization of over 5000 members. We’ve been an integral part of the Austin scene since 1968.

Our goal is to ensure that the Austin area remains a healthy, vibrant, place to live. We believe that the health of the human world is inextricably linked to the health of the natural world, and we offer a wide variety of activities and volunteer opportunities to support our goal.

World Rainforest Day

From the Sierra Club –

PROGRAM: Rainforest Partnership with Mariela Palacios and Hazel Barbour.

The evening will showcase four short films: Big Boom, Sani Isla Project, Person of the Forest, and Colibri Beekeeping Project – and discuss the work of the Rainforest Partnership ( https://rainforestpartnership.org/ ).

Mariela Palacios Gonzalez is the Director of Projects for Rainforest Partnership at the Austin office. She works closely with RP’s teams in Peru and Ecuador on the compilation of project data and project processes. Mariela has an M.S in Biodiversity of Tropical Areas and Conservation from Menéndez Pelayo International University and a B.S. in Ecology from University Foundation of Popayan.

Hazel Barbour is a driving force that helps propel all initiatives and projects at Rainforest Partnership, having served as founding and current chair of the Board of Directors. Her past work experience includes serving as Shell UK’s first community affairs adviser, and was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire medal from Queen Elizabeth II . She is a graduate of the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

Consider biking, carpooling, or taking Cap Metro (http://www.capmetro.org/planner) to the meeting. Free parking is available after 6pm on San Jacinto and nearby streets.
