Program: Austin’s Natural Legacy with Louis René Barrera
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of Austin’s Nature Preserves, Louis will give an overview of the preserves – where they are located, how to access them for hiking and birding, and how they protect Austin’s unique and diverse natural heritage.
Louis René Barrera serves as Environmental Conservation Information Specialist for the Austin Nature Preserves System, Natural Resources Division, Parks and Recreation Department, where he is manager of 22 nature preserves. These conservation lands include imperiled blackland prairie, karst cave ecosystems, as well as Balcones Canyonlands habitats. Barrera has thirty years experience conducting ecological restoration and managing nonnative invasive species. Prior to working with the City of Austin, René volunteered as a Water Watch Dog for the city of Austin and as a stream habitat monitor for TCEQ.
Pre-Meeting Postcard Writing Session: Donna and Mary Beth will have a table for signing petitions and writing postcards to our government leaders between 6:30 and 7:00pm. Please come early to take action!
Consider biking, carpooling, or taking Cap Metro to the meeting. Free parking is available after 6pm on San Jacinto and nearby streets.
