Please join us on “Shades of Green” this Thursday from 1-2PM on KOOP 91.7 FM and streaming live at www.koop.org!

This week, we’ll address the La Loma (Hungry Hill) Trail, the east Austin path carved out by students over the past 50 years that passes over railroad tracks, through waterways, past a toxic dump & homeless camps just to reach East Side Memorial High School. Although the City of Austin has recently paved a multi-million dollar safe biking path nearby, this community still endures treacherous terrain just to get an education.

The ATX Environmental Justice group, Austin Sierra Club, SANA (Springdale-Airport Neighborhood Association), and community activists invite Austinites out to a hike through this trail to experience what students endure to get their education. Click for the Facebook invite.

Our guests will be:
Max Anderson, an Austin-based documentary filmmaker at a local film production company, volunteer with ACAN (Austin Climate Action Network) and ATXEJ (Austin Texas Environmental Justice). He will be filming the hike around La Loma and creating a short documentary to bring awareness to the issues facing La Loma and Red Bluff Cliff.

Pete Rivera, President of SANA (Springdale-Airport Neighborhood Association), member of ATX Environmental Justice, and member of the Austin Sierra Club Executive Committee.

Vanessa Ramos, a Native Austinite, Multimedia Freelancer, and a community organizer with Austin Environmental Justice Team, Austin Climate Action Network and Undoing Racism Latino Caucus.

Don’t forget at the top of the hour we open with the Austin EcoNetwork’s EcoCalendar highlighting green jobs, events, and volunteer opportunities across the city. You can find podcasts of our previous shows on our website and follow us on Facebook & Twitter!
