“Shades of Green” Environmental Talk Radio on KOOP 91.7 FM (West Austin Battle Over Mega Sports Complex and Light Pollution)

November 25 @ 3:38 am

Please join the Shades of Green crew this Thursday from 1-2 PM on KOOP 91.7 FM and streaming live on www.koop.org!

Our guest will be Susan Silberman, volunteer outreach coordinator at the newly founded neighborhood coalition called Westlake Neighborhood Alliance (WNA) and a resident of River Hills. WNA formed, under the pressure from aggressive developers, as a small group of neighbors who were invested in protecting the Hill Country and all of its eco-sensitive facets and has grown close to one thousand area residents.

Susan will speak on the topic of the proposed Western Hill Little League mega sports complex near Emma Long Park The group is strongly opposed to the scope, scale, and intent of the WHLL (Western Hills Little League) proposed mega- sports for-profit complex on River Hills Road in the Hill Country. It could destroy the habitat of at least one endangered bird species, pollute the waters of Lake Austin with fertilizer runoff, and the intake for 2 Water Control & Improvement Districts, as they sit fewer that 500 yards away, create light trespass for 20 square miles, and noise pollution reverberating across both sides of the lake. Additionally, the winding and narrow country road off which it would sit, could become a traffic and safety nightmare.

The group has received official support from the International Association of Dark Skies, 2222CONA, the Lone Star chapter of the Sierra Club, Hill Country Alliance and Save Our Springs Alliance.
