Please join the Shades of Green crew as we speak with Carol Biedrzycki with the citizen group, Texas ROSE and Ruby Roa, a retired employee from Austin Energy who works part time for the Travis County housing authority as a consultant for Rosewood Choice Neighborhood initiative.
Texas ROSE (Ratepayers’ Organization to Save Energy) is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to affordable electricity and a healthy environment. They provide information to consumers and advocate for energy efficiency programs, fair customer service practices, and customer education. (www.texasrose.org)
Ruby is also an advocate for the poor. She is well known for her role in helping families displaced from Shoreline, Woodridge, Las Palmas and other substandard housing that was closed down on the brink of disaster. She is a member of the Ladies of Charity who provide assistance to poor families with utility bills. She helped to fund the Housing Repair Coalition, served on the Community Development commission, and was the Austin American Statesman volunteer of the year in 2012.
