Resilience

From Austin Energy Green Building –

Floods, fire and drought are the most common and costly natural disasters in the United States. Texas leads the nation in severe weather and flooding events. This seminar will explore how the City of Austin addresses resiliency at the community scale and how architects design for resilience at the building level. The Office of Sustainability will discuss planning for the long-term city-wide risks and how measures given in standards such as the RELi Resilience Standard can mitigate them. Architects will present case studies for three projects that weathered the recent record-breaking hurricane and share fantastical resiliency solutions of University of Texas architecture students.
