Purple Martin Party

Join us for another summer of Purple Martin parties at the Highland Mall roost. This pre-migration roost site typically attracts thousands (more likely hundreds of thousands) of Purple Martins each summer with the numbers building from mid to late June through late July. The numbers start to drop in early August and the birds are usually gone by mid to late August.

This event is an amazing natural phenomenon that you don’t want to miss! The birds always put on a show before settling down to roost. Even non-birders will be entertained by the show, so bring your family, friends, and neighbors and join us for an evening of urban birding and socializing with birding friends. Binoculars are optional. Hats or umbrellas and lawn chairs are highly recommended!

We’ll be watching from the Highland Mall parking lot near the intersection of Airport Blvd and Highland Mall Blvd on Friday and Saturday nights for four weekends in July (no party on July 4). No registration is required. Feel free to join us for one night or for all of the parties!
