John Fregonese, a nationally respected expert on sustainable development, will demonstrate how a new innovative tool could help inform redevelopment decision-making.
In particular, how can we achieve positive transformation of the South Shore Central of Lady Bird Lake?

This event is hosted by the City of Austin and the Sustainable Places Project.
About the Sustainable Places Project
The City of Austin is a regional partner in the Sustainable Places Project, a livability initiative funded by a HUD grant. Led by Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services (EGRSO), the collaboration includes Planning and Development Review and a multi-departmental team.
A key Sustainable Places Project initiative has been development of a computer-based analytic tool to assess and compare livability impacts of redevelopment scenarios.
Where is South Shore Central?
Planned to be the first rail station south of Downtown on the proposed urban rail system, the South Shore Central sub-district of Lady Bird Lake’s waterfront overlay is one of the demonstration sites to test and calibrate the analytic tool. The Waterfront Planning Advisory Board endorsed using South Shore Central as a demonstration site for the analytic tool.
This analysis is also part of EGRSO's urban rail economic development analysis.
About the presenter
Mr. Fregonese’s firm, Fregonese Associates, is on Austin’s consultant team for the Land Development Code revision project. This demonstration will offer insights into how a similar analytic process might help balance the goals of Imagine Austin during the land development code revision project.
