Office of Police Oversight Community Open House
July 19, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
We’re excited to invite you to the Office of Police Oversight (OPO)’s first-ever Community Open House — a special opportunity for Austinites to connect directly with our staff and leadership, ask questions, and learn how we work to promote transparency, accountability, and community trust in local law enforcement.
Oversight is a community-first process and OPO staff will be there to answer your questions about the oversight system, provide space for dialogue, and offer ways for you to get involved.
What You’ll Experience:
- Explore the complaint process: Learn how civilian complaints and compliments are submitted and reviewed step by step.
- Meet our policy team: Get insights into the research, data, and national best practices that drive our recommendations for systemic change.
- Hear from our Director, Gail McCant: Get updates on upcoming OPO projects.
- Get involved in community initiatives: Discover how we partner with the community to increase awareness and transparency and encourage dialogue around police oversight.
- PLUS, free food, refreshments, and giveaways for attendees!
This event is open to everyone! Whether you’re curious about how oversight works, passionate about police oversight, or want to share your personal experiences in a welcoming space, our staff will be there to address all of your questions, comments, and concerns.
Your voice matters. Your feedback drives change. Help shape a more transparent, accountable, and community-centered approach to police oversight in Austin.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this important conversation.
