Who's Hosting This Event?

Austin Water Wildland Conservation Division
Who We Are:

Created in 2002 by the action of City Council, the Wildland Conservation Division is within Austin Water. Though not directly connected to the delivery of drinking water and treatment of wastewater, the wildlands absorb rainfall, helping to alleviate flooding and prolong the inflow of water to area creeks and lakes, ultimately contributing to the Colorado River, Austin’s source of drinking water.

  • Join us for a morning of seed-based restoration at the Onion house on the Water Quality Protection Lands (WQPL). These workdays are part of ongoing restoration efforts to establish diverse and resilient grasslands that improve water quality and quantity in the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer.

Tasks vary and, depending on the workday and season, may include working with seeds and plants in the plant nursery, processing collected seed, or venturing out on the property to harvest or sow seed. We will share details with you before each workday.

This workday may involve walking over uneven surfaces and through tall vegetation, carrying and using tools, working in exposed full sun areas, and some bending over. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring drinking water and work gloves, if you have a pair (we’ll have extras).

Due to the tasks, nature of the terrain, and lack of amenities, these workdays are generally best suited to older youth and adults. There is no running water on site (unless we are working at the house/nursery), and pets and smoking are not permitted. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Located in the Driftwood area on FM 967 near FM 1626: bit.ly/onion967. Learn more about the WQPL at austintexas.gov/WQPLstory.
