Join the City of Austin’s Food Policy Manager to explore what a Foodshed is all about and how tracing the origins of our food can improve public health, the local economy, and the environment. Learn why re-localizing the Foodshed can create numerous benefits for you and your community and most importantly how you can get involved.
Speaker Bio: Edwin Marty is the Food Policy Manager for the City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability. Edwin earned a BA in Anthropology from the University of Oregon and completed an “Apprenticeship in Agroecology” from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He was the founder and director of the non-profit Jones Valley Teaching Farm located in in Birmingham, Alabama and co-authored a book about urban farming called Breaking Through Concrete.
Foodshed definition: the geographical area in which food for a particular city or population is produced.
