Power Plants Suck… (lots and lots of water)

Coal, petroleum-coke and nuclear plants proposed for southeast Texas – plants that will almost certainly not serve Austin or Travis County residents – threaten to suck up to 26 billion gallons of water per year from the Colorado River. These plants pose a direct threat not only to the environmental flows needed to maintain estuary life along the Texas coastline, but also to levels in Lake Travis.

Join Public Citizen, the Sierra Club’s Lonestar Chapter, and the SEED Coalition for a benefit to keep our air clean and to protect lake levels. We’ll be watching the sunset over Lake Travis at the Iguana Grill while listening to live music by Butch Hancock and other great acts!

Tickets are $25 and include a buffet. Businesses and individuals are welcome and encouraged to sponsor, and benefits of sponsorship are outlined on our website.

Go to PowerPlantsSuck.org to learn more and get involved. While you’re there, check out our great radio ad recorded by Jim Hightower!
