If you haven't yet experienced the beautiful view of downtown from Red Bluff at the top of La Loma in east Austin, you are in for a great experience. It has been called East Austin's Mount Bonnell.
But, in recent years, La Loma has suffered from a serious dumping problem. Learn more about the problem, as well as what people are doing to fix it, with this Sierra Club hike.
More info about the hike from the Sierra Club:
This is an intermediate level hike. Wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes. Cover up to avoid stickers and bug bites. Bring enough water and snacks for 2-3 hours. We'll meet folks who don't want to do the whole loop halfway to show everyone the dump site that will be cleaned up soon. Meet at the Ortega Elementary School playground at Lott Avenue and Chico Street at 9 am.
