Our biggest city-wide volunteer event is It's My Park Day, held the first Saturday of March. Each year, thousands of volunteers work to improve parks and greenbelts throughout the city.
In 2013, we had over 90 projects city-wide, almost 3,500 volunteers, and over 10,000 hours of volunteer labor. That's equivalent to 5 park maintenance employees working full-time for a whole year! All told, including labor, this one day represented an investment of approximately one quarter of a million dollars for Austin's parks.
Mark your calendar for IMPD 2014 (no, it's not too soon!):

March 1, 2014 : It's My Park Day
We recruit corporate sponsors to support this event, and many companies also contribute employee's volunteer time. By pitching in to help with spring maintenance activities such as spreading mulch, planting trees, clearing trails, and painting benches, It's My Park Day participants play a significant role in the management and upkeep of our parks. Many of our volunteers become committed stewards of our public spaces by adopting their park and participating in fundraising and park improvement projects throughout the year.
