The nation’s 2020 U.S. census touched virtually every person and household in the country. It reflects our racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity and is a major foundation of our nation’s representative democracy. Census data informs decisions related to redistricting, the number of seats per state in the U.S. House of Representatives, and benchmarks in federal civil rights and anti-discrimination laws. Census data is also used to determine distribution of federal financial assistance to local communities, public and private investments, and where local governments need on different areas of their city to create more equitable communities.
Please join Lila Valencia, the City of Austin’s Demographer, as she presents demographic trends and social equity issues of the U.S. 2020 Census for Central Texas.
