Holly East Feast – Food Forest Design Workshop

November 25 @ 4:54 am

The vision of East Feast 2022 – a vision of a flourishing East Side, where diverse neighbors feast together and celebrate abundant local food and community along the shores of Lady Bird Lake. The first food forest to be created by the people for the people in a public park, as part of the Holly Shores/Edward Rendon Sr/Chicano park plan.

Accomplishments since November 2012:

  • The new master plan for Holly Shores Park has edible landscaping and a food forest as a key directive!
  • Austin’s first food forest in a public park is on its way @ Festival Beach Community Garden, with support from Parks and Recreation Department!
  • PARD Director, Sara Hensley, is excited about the possibility of incorporating food forests in other parks, too. Now that’s progress on a large level!

If you are interested in continuing to be a part of this East Feast momentum, we hope you will join us for the East Feast  Food Forest Design Workshop, Sunday, August 11, from 2pm to 6:30 pm.  The workshop will explore the future of the Festival Beach Food Forest, including an overview of food forests, sharing of initial concept plans developed by the tireless East Feast design team, and opportunities for membership in communal spaces at the Festival Beach Community Garden.

Here are some opportunities to contribute to its success:

  1. Please RSVP today –  sign up on Facebook,
  2. Share the invitation with a friend, and/or help us reach out to stakeholders we might not have reached – we especially would love help reaching neighbors and folks who aren’t online much. [English/Spanish flyer is attached! And if you want to pick up flyers, please contact Kathy McWhorter,kmmcwhorter@hotmail.com, or pick some up this Thurs at the East Side Compost Pedaller party at Cenote]
  3. Let us know if you’d like to volunteer on the meeting design and implementation team – we’d love help!

What's a food forest? What are the possibilities for a food forest at Festival Beach? East Feast leaders have been hard at work creating potential designs for a Festival Beach Food Forest, just south of the Community Garden. It's time to share these ideas, get more from neighbors , and start creating together!
