  • Since 2019, Austin has experienced harmful algae in Lady Bird Lake. This past summer, City scientists also detected it at Barking Springs. Lawns can contribute to this problem! The nitrogen and phosphorous in fertilizers wash to creeks and lakes, which helps the dangerous algae grow. The good news is that maintaining a healthy, green lawn doesn’t require landscape chemicals!
