GROW LOCAL CLASS SERIES

Sustainable Food Center is thrilled to announce the new “Grow Local Classes in the Teaching Garden” series – gardening workshops in our on-site garden that promise participants of all levels a hands-on experience exploring home food gardening topics.

Grow Local gardening classes are all about learning solid gardening skills alongside local gardening experts. We want to build community, have fun, witness the magic in nature, make growing your own food easy, and be part of something bigger – your food system!

Our “Get Growing” track offers gardeners education and hands-on experiences in essential food gardening topics such as soil health and garden pests. The “Deep Roots” series digs deeper and focuses on topics such as raised bed construction and fruit tree care.

SFC’s Grow Local team is dedicated to growing successful food gardeners, sustainable places to grow food, and supportive gardening communities. This means that all proceeds from the Teaching Garden classes support free gardening education and resources for families in need.

ABOUT SOIL HEALTH & COMPOSTING WORKSHOP

This workshop will help you diagnose the health of your soil and prepare it for successful food gardening. Learn how to identify the different types of soil in Austin, understand what types of plants are appropriate for different soil structures, and amend soil with compost and other beneficial, organic materials. East Side Compost Pedallers will also give a talk on home composting.

Course fee is $12.

Registration is capped at 25. Please register to attend this course below.
