We're goin' to Arlington to demand the EPA set the strongest possible standard for protecting our kids by ridding our air of dangerous smog pollution.

Austin Bus – car drop/passenger pickup at Mexitas (1107 North Interstate 35 Frontage Road, Austin, TX 78702). Depart time between 8am and 9am, return to Austin no later than 11pm.

San Antonio Bus – pickup location/time TBD

► Your body/voice is needed to be part of a mass showing of support for strong action, and to push back against what we expect to be a sizeable turnout from big polluters.

What is smog? Also referred to as "ozone" or "o3", smog pollution, largely driven by the burning of fossil fuels, (power plants and vehicle tailpipe emissions) can trigger respiratory problems like asthma attacks, nervous system disorders and cardiovascular problems. Over time, exposure can lead to permanent lung damage and even premature death.

► Here's the kicker – smog-forming pollutants come from SO many sources. Cars, coal plants, fracking, cement kilns, diesel trucks, refineries, idling construction equipment, 18-wheelers, etc. Thus, folks who care about clean air, stopping fracking, who want light rail, who drive electric vehicles….we all have a stake in this fight!

The communities of San Antonio, Karnes County, Manchester in Houston, Dallas-Ft Worth, and even Austin (just to name a few) are being impacted by pollution from the burning, extraction, and refining of gas, coal, or heavy oil like the tar sands. All of those processes are producing asthma-inducing pollution in the form of smog, which disproportionately impacts the poor and working class communities of color.

On January 29th, the EPA is hosting a public hearing to gauge public opinion on what should be done about smog pollution.

What: Speak (if willing) to EPA staff members about why clean air matters to you and what the pollution/extraction is doing to your community.

Where: Arlington, Texas
Arlington City Hall
101 W. Abram Street
Arlington, Texas, 76010

When: Jan. 29:. Begins at 9 a.m. and continue until 7:30 p.m.
