Perennial flowers, plants that return year-after-year, are both economical and low-maintenance. In selecting perennials for Central Texas, it is always best to choose plants that will tolerate our summer heat, native soils, and infrequent rains.
Join life-long plant enthusiast and Travis County Master Gardening, Reeve Hobbie, as he shares dozens of his favorite tried and true perennials that thrive here with minimal care in our climate and soils. The seminar, sponsored by the Travis County Master Gardener Association, will be held on June 8, 2019, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Austin Area Garden Center in Zilker Botanical Garden.
Reeve’s collection of beautiful slides and plant descriptions will also highlight how perennials add color and texture to your landscape. He especially likes bearded iris and daylilies, but you’ll have to ask him why he doesn’t grow them.
You are bound to go home with some new plant ideas to try out.
No registration is required. Attendance to the seminars is free and open to the public. A park entrance fee is required.
The Austin Area Garden Center in Zilker Botanical Garden is located at 2220 Barton Springs Rd., Austin 78746. The fees are $2 per adult, $1 per child (ages 3-12) or seniors (age 62 & over), and $3 for non-Austin Residents. Cash or check accepted.
