Food Rescue Mini-Summit for Businesses
October 19 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join Austin food system leaders to explore food rescue, identify barriers, and build a stronger, more connected local food rescue system.
Did you know that 1.24 million pounds of food is wasted every day in Austin while over 18% of our population faces food insecurity?
Join local food service businesses, food rescue organizations, nonprofits, government partners, and other food system stakeholders for an interactive Food Rescue Mini-Summit lunch and learn (lunch provided) for food-permitted businesses focused on building a stronger, more connected food rescue ecosystem in Austin.
Together, we’ll explore how food rescue works across different settings, hear directly from organizations and businesses doing the work, and dig into the barriers and opportunities that shape what’s possible. Through conversation and interactive activities, we’ll begin mapping the people, organizations, resources, and relationships that make food rescue possible—and identify where there are opportunities to collaborate and improve the system.
You’ll leave with:
- A shared understanding of why food rescue is so important
- A better understanding of the realities, challenges, and successes of food rescue
- Connections with others working across the food rescue ecosystem
- Ideas for making food rescue and donation easier and more effective
- Opportunities to stay involved as Austin’s food rescue network continues to take shape
