Hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Travis County Master Gardeners –

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Travis County Master Gardeners invite you to visit the Earth-Kind Demonstration Garden for ideas, advice, and DIY workshops.

Free and open to the public, this family-friendly event features an assortment of DIY and demonstration activities, including tool sharpening, composting, grow boxes, and garden art. Information will be shared about drip irrigation methods, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, vegetable gardening, and Integrated Pest Management. There are several activities for kids, including an insect identification scavenger hunt. A limited supply of Earth-Kind plants and fall vegetable starts will be available for purchase. A free rain barrel giveaway is also featured.

Travis County Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions and identify plants in the garden. They will also conduct hands-on activities (from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) on cleaning and sharpening gardening tools, construction of a bee house and using found objects for garden art. Attendees are encouraged to bring a hand garden tool, such as loppers, hand shears, shovels, or rakes, to sharpen.

Workshop Schedule: Participants can register for the following free workshops online at http://bit.ly/earthkindatx.

  • 9 am. Three-bin Compost Bin Construction
  • 11 am. Build a Grow Box
  • 1 pm. Plant a Tree with TreeFolks.

Be sure to meet your Travis County AgriLife Extension Agents: Daphne Richards County Extension Agent – Horticulture (and Augie too); Noel Troxclair County Extension Agent – Agriculture and Natural Resources; bring your bug questions to Wizzie Brown Extension Program Specialist- IPM.

Parking for the public is available along Smith Road. Because of construction on Highway 183, we suggest Airport Boulevard or 7th Street as preferred routes to the AgriLife office.
