The Wildflower Climate Action Team Team is sponsoring the award-winning documentary film, “Don’t Frack With Denton” about civil disobedience and the fight against fracking in Texas. We will be joined by the film’s director, Garrett Graham, and possibly also one of the activists from Denton (stay tuned).
Hundreds of gas wells tower over Denton, Texas using a dangerous and controversial technique called hydraulic fracturing or fracking, but the people of Denton fought back. Against overwhelming odds, Denton voted to become the first city in Texas to ban fracking. But after corporate lobbyists and industry insiders managed to throw out their vote behind closed doors, the people of Denton resorted to acts of civil disobedience to physically stop the fracking industry from returning to their town. It’s a David and Goliath story about community and resistance from deep in the heart of gasland.
Come join us to watch this continuing story of community resistance, and stay for questions and discussion after the film.
Don’t Frack With Denton won FOUR awards at the Colorado International Activism Film Festival, including Best Documentary Feature.
