From the Save Barton Creek Association –
Join us on June 10th for happy hour with Karen Kocher, media expert and University of Texas at Austin lecturer from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at The Park on South Lamar. She will be speaking and showing segments of “Living Springs: An Interactive Documentary about Barton Springs.
At the beginning of this Happy Hour, we will also have a brief presentation by City of Austin watershed staff on the threat posed to Barton Creek by a proposed wastewater plant.
Living Springs tells the many stories of Barton Springs Pool and the people who have shaped its history. This historical and cultural record of one of Austin’s most notable landmarks is a crucial resource for public education and posterity. As such, efforts are being made to incorporate the documentary into the science and humanities curriculum throughout central Texas. Furthermore, a high-resolution version of the project is installed as part of the Splash! exhibit at Barton Springs where over 100,000 visitors come each year!
Karen has created multiple high-quality media projects to benefit the people of Austin, including Living Springs, Austin Past and Present, and Zilker Trek, a multi-media scavenger hunt.
Together we’ll learn more about the project’s current work and future plans directly from its creator, Karen!
