Community Power: lowering electric bills and revitalizing our neighborhood
Hosted by: Airport-Springdale Neighborhood Association, PODER, ATX Environmental Justice, and the Sierra Club
Welcome! Do you or your family feel the pressure of high electric bills? Have you ever had your power cut off due to falling behind on your bill? Did you know that there are ways to work with Austin Energy to lower your bill, make your home more energy efficient, and upgrade your appliances?
In 2014, City Council created a Task Force to assess how our electric utility could better serve low- and-moderate-income customers. Though Austin Energy today has some programs to assist consumers in paying and/or lowering their utility bills, this Task Force provides an avenue to expand those existing programs, increase access to energy savings and renewable energy, and thus reduce air pollution while enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
On Saturday, Feb. 28th, the Springdale-Airport Neighborhood Association and the Sierra Club will be hosting a community meeting at Santa Julia’s Church Hall (3010 Lyons Road) from 2 pm to 4 pm to lead a discussion on the community’s experience with Austin Energy, options available to reduce our high energy bills, and how to improve accessibility to weatherization programs.
Spanish language interpretation and free food/drink will be provided.
